Tripotassium citrate is the potassium salt of citric acid — three potassium atoms replacing the three acidic hydrogens. Sold commercially as the monohydrate, CAS 6100-05-6, it is a white granular crystal or fine powder, freely soluble in water, and it carries E332. When a specification says simply “potassium citrate,” this is almost always the material it means.

The potassium citrate formula is K₃C₆H₅O₇·H₂O with a molecular weight of 324.41 g/mol. The anhydrous form, CAS 866-84-2, is 306.40 g/mol — a difference worth checking if you dose by weight.
